Beautifully detailed, high quality pair of antique bookends featuring a horse standing on a platform by Jennings Brothers of Bridgeport, CT.  Circa 1930.  Each bookend stands 6 1/2" tall, 7 1/2" long, 2 5/8" deep and weighs 1 lb. 13 oz. (3 lbs. 10 oz. for the pair).  They are in very good condition with with some wear on the gold. These have not been polished.  There are no breaks, repairs, or, touch-ups.  They are completely original.  Authenticity is assured as the bases and stomachs each have the J.B. initials molding in relief.  There is a bit of play between the horse and base.  The felt bottoms are original and the soldered metal stabilization plates are intact.  We did not want to compromise this by opening to tighten the screws as it is minor.

Jennings Brothers was one of the foremost manufacturers of high quality bookends and other art metal products from the late 1800's through the 1940's. We have never seen an inferior product from them. The detailing and finishes are consistently superb. A truly fine company that has proven the test of time.  Their pieces are extremely collectible.  They were located in Bridgeport, CT.  One of the primary reasons for their value is they could not make their products using machinery because of the delicacy of the techniques used so they were done by artists and craftsmen. The resulting efforts are immediately realized when you find Jennings Brothers items today as the finishing is superior to most of the metal arts companies.  Few compare to this quality.
