Extremely rare, large, very heavy pair of original antique cast iron bookends featuring the gorgeous Flamingo bird.  This set was made by Hubley, circa 1915.  Hubley Manufacturing was located in Lancaster, PA, by 1894 the company was incorporated. They made a wide range of metal arts products, all of high quality and most, particularly the early products were made of cast iron.  They produced a number of bookends and doorstops, all highly collectible today.  This set is remarkable is several ways. It is extremely tall and heavy for bookends, the subject is extremely rare in early bookends, and, it is made of three separate components: the flamingo, backplate and baseplate.  All are screwed together with the backplate formed as a book, the baseplate is a platform, and, the flamingo with tropical foliage. The detailing is excellent particularly working in cast iron. Incredible set.  Each bookend stands 8 3/4" tall, 4 3/4" long, 4 5/8" wide and weighs 8 lbs. 3 oz. (16 lbs. 6 oz. for the pair). They are in good condition with some paint finish loss and surface rust. They still have the original glass eyes.  This is a phenomenal set for the serious collector.  We have never seen this set before.
