Magnificent pair of heavy, original antique bookends featuring the Italian poet Dante Alghieri (1265-1321) sitting comfortably in a large chair with one hand resting on the side of his face, the other arm is stretched over the back of the chair with a book in his hand. Dante as he is commonly referred to, is best known for his epic poem the Divine Comedy.  Each bookend stands 6" tall, 5 1/4" wide, 4" deep and weighs 3 lbs. (6 lbs. for the pair).  They are in good original condition with some dings and finish loss. The polychrome finish is still vibrant and virtually all intact. Authenticity is assured as both have the Kronheim and Oldenbusch hallmark on the rear. Kronheim and Oldenbusch enjoy a reputation for creative, high quality metal arts products produced primarily prior to the Depression Era.
