Beautifully detailed, very heavy set of high quality antique bookends featuring a man reading with his feet propped up on a cushion. He is accompanied by his dog sleeping below his chair. Beside him is a fireplace with a cooking pot, on the mantle is a clock flanked by candles. The fireplace is casted to simulate stone with the pattern following around the rear. This set was made by the Armor Bronze Company of New York Circa 1925.  Authenticity is assured as the Armor Bronze shopmark which looks like a shield and the name 'FIRESIDE COMFORT' is impressed on the rear. Each bookend stands 7" tall, 6" wide, 4 3/8" deep and weighs 5 lbs. (10 lbs. for the pair).  They are in good original antique condition with some finish loss and dings. There are no cracks, breaks, or, repairs. This set is the early original. These antique bookends were made using the much coveted and highly collectible bronze-clad method of production which utilized electricity via an electrode built into the plaster mold of the subject piece. Bronze was then electroformed onto the plaster mold. This was extremely innovative in the 1920's. Unfortunately, it was also very costly for labor and materials. Some bookends could take as long as three days to be completed. They created some of the most detailed and sought after bookends we have today. They're getting quite scarce to find in good condition since they are somewhat fragile.
