Original pair of marked antique bookends featuring a gun dog in the brush on point.  This set was made by Jennings Brothers of Bridgeport, CT.  Circa 1925.  This is a very high quality set of bookends showing a dog on alert and pointing.  The backplate is in a relief of foliage.  Each bookend stands 4 3/4" tall, 6 1/2" long, 3 3/8" wide and weighs 3 lbs. (6 lbs. for the pair).  They are in very good original condition.  There are no breaks, repairs, or, touch-ups.  This set was made from a gray metal with a bronze finish.  Jennings Brother did not work in bronze although often their products are described as being solid bronze.  The techniques in finishing they used were so fine that the results looked like real bronze.

Jennings Brothers was one of the foremost manufacturers of high quality bookends and other art metal products from the late 1800's through the 1940's. We have never seen an inferior product from them. The detailing and finishes are consistently superb. A truly fine company that has proven the test of time.  Their pieces are extremely collectible.  They were located in Bridgeport, CT.  One of the primary reasons for their value is they could not make their products using machinery because of the delicacy of the techniques used so they were done by artists and craftsmen. The resulting efforts are immediately realized when you find Jennings Brothers items today as the finishing is superior to most of the metal arts companies.  Few compare to this quality.
