Very rare pair of early original antique bookends featuring a military soldier from World War One known as a Doughboy.  The solder is standing armed with a rifle in front of a barbed wire fence with an explosion in the sky.  This set was made by Hubley Manufacturing, Lancaster, PA.  Circa 1919.  Each bookend stands 6" tall, 5" wide, 2" deep and weighs 2 lbs. 2 oz. (4 lbs. 4 oz. for the pair).  They are in very good condition.  This set is made of solid cast iron with a bronze finish.  It is completely original with no touch-ups.  There are no breaks or repairs.  Authenticity is assured as both are incised with the Hubley number 695 on the rear.

Hubley Manufacturing Company was incorporated in 1894 in Lancaster, PA by John Hubley.  They were highly diversified in their product line which included:  cast iron toys cars, motorcycles, doorstops, bookends, and desk accessories.  They are particularly well known for their detailed 1:25 scale metal kits from the 1930’s.  Their products are all highly collectible and have lasted for generations.
