Extremely rare pair of original marked antique equestrian bookends made by Jennings Brothers of Bridgeport, CT.  Circa 1929. This set features a saddled horse jumping a fence surrounded by greenery.  The base is elaborately detailed with a floral swag flanked with a Grecian Key design.  This is a particularly beautiful set.  Each bookend stands 4 5/8" tall, 6 3/4" long, 2 1/2" wide and weighs 2 lbs. 5 oz. (4 lbs. 10 oz. for the pair).  They are in very good original condition with no breaks, repairs, or, touch-ups.  Authenticity is assured as both are stamped in relief on the rear base J.B. 3012.

Jennings Brothers was one of the foremost manufacturers of high quality bookends and other art metal products from the late 1800's through the 1940's. We have never seen an inferior product from them. The detailing and finishes are consistently superb. A truly fine company that has proven the test of time.  Their pieces are extremely collectible.  They were located in Bridgeport, CT.  One of the primary reasons for their value is they could not make their products using machinery because of the delicacy of the techniques used so they were done by artists and craftsmen. The resulting efforts are immediately realized when you find Jennings Brothers items today as the finishing is superior to most of the metal arts companies.  Few compare to this quality.
