This extremely rare set of bookends is spectacular. They feature a boy sitting on a ledge fishing, books on one side, can of worms on the other. He's caught a fish, the head can be seen sticking up from the water on the end of the fishing line. He's a really happy kid! The detailing is exquisite. They are very high quality. Each bookend stands 8 1/2" tall, 7" deep, 5" wide and weighs 4 lbs. 4 oz. They are in very good condition. Authenticity is assured as both are incised on the back: KBW ARTBRONZ. The end of the rod is wood and the line is wire, they are replacements. The rest of the bookend is all one piece and all original. These antique bookends were made using the much coveted and highly collectible bronze-clad method of production which utilized electricity via an electrode built into the plaster mold of the subject piece. Bronze was then electroformed onto the plaster mold. This was extremely innovative in the 1920's. Unfortunately, it was also very costly for labor and materials. Some bookends could take as long as three days to be completed. They created some of the most detailed and sought after bookends we have today. They're getting quite scarce to find in good condition since they are somewhat fragile.
