In 1862 the Walter Baker Chocolate Company located in Dorchester, MA purchased the rights to use the painting known as 'La Belle Chocolatiere' by Swiss artist Jean-Etienne Liotard as a symbol for their chocolate products. These bookends are the depiction of the chocolate serving maid carrying a tray with a porcelain chocolate mug and a glass of water. Wonderful, old, original set made of cast iron with a brass plated finish. Each bookend stands 6" tall, 2 1/2" wide, 2 3/4" deep and weighs 2 lbs. They are in very good condition.
